Inequality and education: the key for true development
May 24th 2023 - 14:30
In this conference, HIKMA intends to investigate the link between the economic and social situation of a country and the level of access to quality education guaranteed to the population.
With its contribution, we would like to understand what is meant when we talk about 'quality' education, what factors influence the level of education positively and negatively, and then ask how a state can intervene to guarantee this right to its citizens.
Convinced of the importance of education as a fundamental right, it is in our interest to understand how access to a high standard of education influences both the socio-economic well-being of the individual citizen and the economic situation of the country.
Through your intervention, we want to offer our audience a deeper understanding of the role of education in the development of a country and the society in which we live.
Fighting climate change through green communication and eco influencers: will squared pictures save the planet?
May 24th 2023 - 16:45
In this conference, Hikma intends to address several aspects. Firstly, the conference aims to assess the role that social media and eco-influencers have played so far in the fight against climate change.
Secondly, we would like to compare the approaches of social media and traditional media in communicating the urgency of combating climate change and their respective impact on different target audiences (e.g. Boomers vs. GenZ). Finally, we would like to investigate the extent to which 'green communication' contributes to generating climate anxiety.

Balancing Free Speech and Community Standards: the Future of Online Regulations
May 25th 2023 - 14:30
In this conference HIKMA aims to explore the topic of online content moderation with a focus on recently adopted European regulations such as the Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act, analysing their impact on both social media platforms and users.
With the proliferation of social media and other online platforms, ensuring that content is appropriate and respectful has become a critical issue for both users and platform operators. This is especially important considering that social media content is the primary source of information for the younger generation (according to a recent UNICEF survey, 45% of 15-24 year olds said social media was their primary source of information). Topics covered will include legal, practical and ethical considerations, trying to take a practical 'behind the scenes' perspective.

How war changed my life
May 25th 2023 - 16:45
In this conference, HIKMA will address the topic of conflicts and focus on analysing their impact on the younger population.
The first part of the conference will focus on two points. Firstly, what is the reaction to the outbreak of war, i.e. which paths are taken by those involved such as armed resistance, staying in the country or not. Secondly, there will be the question of what is the role of social media within a context of war. The reference context is the ongoing Russia - Ukraine conflict. In the second part, the focus is on what the economic impact of the conflict is. More specifically, how it changes the working lives of young people and what impact it has on the labour market as well as analysing whether there is an increase in economic inequality.
(A)Political Young Generation
May 26th 2023 - 10:00
This specific conference aims to explore the topic of the lightweight relationship between the younger generation and politics. We want to examine possible ways to improve the performance of institutions toward "youth politics" and reflect on the inherent presence of young people in politics and in the conversation about the future of our society.
Distrust in democracy, alienation of the younger generation from public life, and lack of structural change in our society are the most urgent challenges we face when reflecting on the relationship between "youth and politics. The average age of the European Parliament is 49.5; the situation of national parliaments is even worse; there are no crucial institutions that directly involve young people within the political system, and the abstention rate of the younger generation is therefore increasing. We firmly believe that this intrinsic link must change and that the younger generation must occupy a key role in the future political system.
Youth and organized crime
May 26th 2023 - 12:00
The goal of the conference will be to explore the world of organized crime with the help of an expert in the field, particularly how it has transformed over the years by becoming more international and closely linked to the dealing of hard drugs.
The focus of our conference will be the point of connection between organized crime and the younger generation, with the intention of exploring why the appeal of mafias has not diminished among young people, but rather continues to seduce them.
First workshop
Public Diplomacy: the new diplomatic frontier
Mode: in presence
On the first day, there will be a general and introductory explanation of the communication strategies of public and digital diplomacy. During the second day, participants will be divided into four groups, and each will be assigned a country. Based on the material provided by us previously (posts, tweets, legal acts) and after a careful analysis of the type of strategy of each respective country, the participants will have to create an instagram profile reflecting the assigned country. The aim will be to simulate a campaign to promote youth policies in their country. The campaign will be carried out using all the tools of digital diplomacy.
During the third day, the workshop should culminate in an exposition of the communication strategy in question, highlighting the difficulties, strengths and weaknesses of public diplomacy.
Second workshop

Third workshop
Competitive Sustainability: a challenge for the new generations
Mode: (blended or online)
The aim of the workshop is to analyse the concept of economic sustainability, not only from an environmental point of view, but also in its social sense, referring to current criteria and legislation. The event will be held entirely in English and will be divided into three days, according to the following structure:
The first day will be dedicated to an introduction on the topic of sustainability and an analysis of the main challenges that companies face when deciding to invest in sustainable development, trying to remain competitive on the international market.
During the second day, the interactive part will take place, during which participants will be involved. Attendees will be divided into groups, each representing an international company operating in a specific market sector and aiming to build a sustainable business model. Each company will be asked to elaborate a business model that achieves an ideal compromise between sustainability and productivity.
On the final day, the groups will present their business plans, which will be followed by a final discussion, aimed at providing feedback to the students on what they have achieved and further enriching the experience of those present, giving them new insights and analysis. His talk would ideally take place on the final day.
