Diplomacy and Negotiation: the art of making one's will count.
Negotiation is ubiquitous within diplomatic relationships between states, in fact, it has vital importance in determining the future of populations and states. This scientific discipline is considered as an art, and it is clear that to be a successful negotiator very specific abilities and skills are required.
This workshop aims to provide the tools and theoretical foundations of this discipline and which are necessary to successfully conclude a high level negotiation without forgetting the pragmatism that characterizes diplomatic relations. For this reason, we propose simulations of international disputes between states that have historically occurred. The diplomatic negotiations will be led by an eminent member of the U.S. diplomatic agency, Professor and former executive Emilio Iodice.
The workshop is divided into three stages:

A frontal lecture given by an expert in the field in which the foundations of negotiation and mediation are identified and analyzed.

Start and development of the practical experience of diplomatic negotiation in which the participants will be actively involved while being divided by themes and roles.

Exposure of the dynamics of the dispute and the consequent solution found by the mediators and final intervention of the expert who will present the real cases, their development and outcomes.
Fighting for our planet: what are the next challenges ?
The impact of the climate crisis on our lives is increasingly evident. To fight it back, we must be aware of the new challenges posed by the environmental emergency. What scenarios await us in the future? The climate crisis will change our lifestyle, migration will continue to increase due to unsustainable living conditions and governments will face new challenges regarding national and international (in)security. The young will have to take action to react to climate change and reverse it.
Hikma is delighted to announce the opening of the selections for the “Fighting for our planet: what are the next challenges?” workshop in collaboration with Centro Studi Internazionali.
Participants will receive materials to read beforehand and will have to work in teams to organise an awareness-raising campaign on a major challenge of the current environmental crisis. Moreover, participants will have the opportunity to write an article on the issues addressed after attending the three-day workshop (extra and not compulsory activity). The winner will have his/her article published on the Centro Studi Internazionali website.

Women in Power: a troubled journey
Hikma presents a 3-days workshop focused on a fundamental topic for our future: female leadership. In a world in constant evolution, the female figure in politics and, more generally, in leadership roles, is still extremely under-represented.
In a period in which 99% of the new unemployed in Italy, following the pandemic crisis, are women, we will embark on a journey into the world of power, analyzing the link between leadership and that concept that is too deeply rooted in our society: gender inequality. Rooted but subtle, evident but hidden, gender inequality affects us all on a personal and professional level
There are those who, to get to the top, take the lift, and those who, in the best of cases, use the stairs because the lift is out of order for them: women. Together with guests of excellence, Hikma will offer the tools to spot the differences between political figures of different genders: how should a woman be in order to be socially recognized, and what does she need to be a leader, in a world in which the ticket to power is paid in testosterone?

Cyber threat analysis: not if but when
The aim of this event is to make our Hikma Summit of International Relations an event that goes further than international relations and diplomacy, In fact, with this workshop, we would like to create the optimal situation that allows the students interested in this specific field to get to know several working and practical opportunities. We believe that the broad knowledge and information that our projects aim to encourage can contribute to developing a concrete and passionate life project in which curiosity about the world is in harmony with the skills and responsibilities that a purely professional context requires.
Career day will offer several meetings in which the students will get to know the various disciplinary and professional opportunities that the job market propose both to students with a degree, and to these who are still studying for a Degree related to International Politics. Several opportunities will be presented, such as think tanks, ong, political institutions, academic institutions and manu more formative and professional experiences.
The structure of Career Day is described below:
During the first two hours, the experts will deepen the dynamics to get into the world of work and the ways to reach specific roles and goals. For example, ONG representatives, members of international institutions, political scientists, researchers, think tank components, etc... will introduce the students to the opportunities in their field of work and suggest them the right steps to break through in that specific sector.
In the last two hours, students who will apply, will have the chance to participate to one of the presentations of the different carreers, Every career presentation will be provided with a specific corner where you will find illustrations and different materials, both digital and printed.
The Institute of International Affairs (IAI) will take part to the Summit, and they will have a permanent stand in the Campus green space. In fact, the presence of IAI members is fundamental not only to explore the possibility to make a carreer in this kind of think tanks, but also to promote between the students an approach to international politic based on dialogue and inspired by high values such as peace and cooperation.
The post-Covid Italian economy: the future of the country in your hands
